This was one of those pretentious projects that people like me to do show off their l337 skillz.
I don't actually have
l337 skillz, so this shall have to suffice.
I wanted a Steampunk coat. After spending hours perusing various (and expensive) Steamy clothing vendors I came up with a general design. The idea behind this coat is to incorporate all the styles I like in my clothing; militaria being the number one aspect.
I adore tailcoats but the typical black evening style tailcoat doesn't fit my Steampunk character, so that's where the tails are from. The fur poking out is merely a happy accident. I had intended on lining the front and a hood with fur and it was just a fluke that the fur happened to puff out like it does on the front. I liked the look of it so I kept it. My "Dad"
gave me a waistcoat a few years back that had the military/band elements on the front. I love that vest and I don't get to wear it often enough, so I added the little dohickeys and the collar design from that. The shoulder epaulet aspect is from the vintage British army shirt I had from last years D*Con outfit.
The thing is covered in pockets and originally had a hood. I wore the coat out and about whilst hanging with my "sister"
. It was at that time I decided to scrap the hood. She suggested that the back needed something, so I added the cinching hickamaflagger. Incidentally, the picture of the back isn't really off. My dressform is slightly cockeyed. Also, three of the patches and a few of the military pins were handed down from my "sister" 's dad.
Anyhow! Long, pretentious rant off!
